Abstract:Solinarka Aphanius fasciatus je majhna vsejeda riba iz družine drstečih živorodnih krapovcev (Cyprinodontidae).

Title:Contribution to the knowledge of the mediterranean killifish (aphanius fasciatus) ecology in slovene coastal wetlands
Abstract:Mediterranean killifish Aphanius fasciatus is a small omnivorous fish from the family of Cyprinodontidae. In Slovenia, it is present in several coastal wetlands. Our research was conducted in the Sečovlje and Strunjan saltpans from autumn of 2014 to December 2016. We arranged 24 samples. In the course of the founding research (2014 and 2015) we determined the influence of ecological factors on the coefficient of condition of Aphanius fasciatus. The purpose of this research was to upgrade the pioneering research with new facts and a significantly larger sample, and to determine whether the identified pattern (condition factor and biometrics) from the prior research is retained. The sampling method was solely based on the hunting of specimens with a large net for plankton hunting, peaks and a medium-sized net for catching small marine organisms. To determine the physical condition of specimens, Fulton’s condition factor was calculated for each specimen (2379 specimens) based on length and mass. Specimens were found to have better condition factor and biometric properties in larger habitats, such as salt basins and lagoons, and slightly worse in smaller habitats (corries and canals). The presence of vegetation is not crucial for survival. The least suitable areas for them are natural small corries without the flow of fresh water. The latter are more likely to be infested with parasites than in lagoons, canals and salt basins. Females are more abundant in populations than males and have a better condition factor and biometric properties. The age ratio of the populations is in favor of the younger specimens. It would be beneficial to sample in further research during the summer months and also in larger habitats.
