Abstract:Izhodišča: Hipoglikemija lahko vodi tudi do smrti pacienta, zato je dolžnost vseh delavcev ZN prepoznati osnovne znake in simptome ter ob tem izvajati ukrepe prve pomoči. Raziskovalne metode: V zaključnem delu smo uporabili kvantitativno raziskovanje z metodo anketiranja.

Title:Differences in knowledge of hypoglycemia between emergency medical care providers and other nursing staff
Abstract:Background: Hypoglycaemia can lead to patients death. Thus is the duty of all health workers to recognize its signs and symptoms and to take first aid measures. Paramedics frequently encounter hypoglycaemic coma in the field where they have to provide first aid, as well as application of the medications. They also need to know how to administer glucose and be with other alternatives ways. Methodology: We used quantitative research using the survey method. To describe the theoretical starting points, we included Slovenian and foreign literature related to research issues, for which we used a descriptive method. In the empirical part, we used an anonymous structured questionnaire consisting of 18 questions. It was aimed primarily at emergency medical care providers and other nursing workers who are working in various fields of practice. Results: Based on the analysis of questionnaires, we found that rescuers were more likely to experience hypoglycemia and hypoglycemic coma than other nursing workers. Signs and symptoms are better recognized by other nursing workers, but paramedics are better in able to determine the amount and concentration of glucose to be administered when a hypoglycaemic coma is recognized. Paramedics were also well aware of other ways to administer medications for hypoglycemia. Discussion and Conclusion: The analysis of the results shows that rescuers are more likely to experience hypoglycaemia and hypoglycaemic coma than other nursing staf, but there are no major differences in knowledge regarding the recognition of symptoms, signs and diseases that may cause hypoglycaemia. According to the results of the research, we advise that the organization applies additional training for both groups.
