Title:Mental health as a national treasure
Abstract:Mental disorders are among the top ten causes of disability in the world, with severe social and economic consequences for individuals, families and communities. Mental health problems are a key reason for the loss of productive human capital, high costs are created in jobs due to presentism and / or absenteeism. People with mental health problems have significantly reduced incomes and are more likely to retire early. Absenteeism is a social, organizational and legal problem that has economic consequences for workers, employers, the economy and the field of compulsory health insurance. An individual's mental state, such as happiness, contentment, self-esteem, relationships with others, and day-to-day functioning, and the ability to cope with their lives and successfully cope with the challenges, problems and contributions to the community in which they live, is shattered and out of balance. Problems can occur in one or more areas of mental health. In addition to the burden of illness, persons with mental disorders and their loved ones are often subject to discrimination, exclusion and violation of fundamental human rights, and stigma has a negative impact on accessibility and/or disability. course of medical treatment. The mental health care of society is based on the good mental health of children and young people. Ensuring a safe and stimulating environment that prevents mental illness from childhood is a long-term investment of society. Effective measures and approaches in the field of mental health promotion and protection are crucial for the advancement of society and economic growth, since only a mentally healthy individual can develop their skills, cope with stress in their daily lives, work effectively and fruitfully and contribute to their community. Activities related to mental health promotion in the work environment are also needed. Based on the theoretical and empirical approach and data from the latest research in the field of mental health, the thesis will present the dimension of mental health in the European Union (with emphasis on the situation in Slovenia), which are key challenges and strategic goals for improving it. We will present the existing strategic measures (agree or less agree) and propose our (additional) measures, which would be added to the existing ones for greater, reliable efficiency in the mental health of individuals and society as a whole.
