Z lastnim anketnim vprašalnikom smo anketirali 160 študentov in študentk sociologije iz Slovenije in Češke; njihove odgovore smo statistično analizirali s programom IBM SPSS.

Title:Attitude of Europeans towards Islamic fundamentalism based on the example of Czech and Slovenian students
Abstract:The purpose of this master's thesis was to determine the influence of fundamental demographic factors on attitudes towards Muslims, Islam, and Islamic fundamentalism on the sample of students from Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The theoretical part focuses on the historical overview of the position of Islam and Islamic fundamentalism in Europe, as well as the factors that have influenced Europeans' attitudes towards Islam in the past. With our own questionnaire, 160 sociology students from Slovenia and the Czech Republic were interviewed and their answers were statistically analyzed with the program “IBM SPSS”. The results of the analyses showed a significantly higher social distance to Muslims than to the natives, regardless of gender, country or religion of the respondents. Particularly high social distance towards Muslims was observed among Czech respondents who also expressed significantly higher concern about Islamic fundamentalism, less positive perception of Muslims, and a more positive perception of Catholics compared to Slovenian respondents. These results are not surprising and probably reflect the higher connection of Slovenes with Muslims throughout history. In line with expectations, respondents from both countries were found to be more likely to attribute violence to Muslims, which coincides with frequent media coverage of Islam. When it comes to concerns about Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism, male gender and Catholic affiliation are also statistically significant factors.
Keywords:Islamic fundamentalism, Muslims, Islamic terroristic organizations, Czech students, Slovenian students
