Abstract:Kipar in pedagog Alojzij Repič je v slovenski javnosti približno sedemdeset let po smrti slabo znan in prepoznaven. Njegovi učenci so bili: brata Kalin, France Kralj, Lojze Dolinar, Ivan Napotnik in mnogi drugi.

Title:Sculptur and Educator Alojzij Repič
Abstract:Contemporary view and recognition of sculptor and educator Alojzij Repič is inadequate after almost 70 years of his death. In the historical sense, Alojzij Repič did not make a significant contribution to the memory of the Slovenes, since of his works rarely exceeded the expectations of artistic design at the time. He opened his own sculpture workshop in Vienna after he finished his studies at the Vienna Academy. Due to his great recognition in the domestic society and his desire to raise the concept of art in his home land, he moved to his home town after a few years and settled there. Due to his knowledge, experience and good references as an academic sculptor from the Academy, he soon got a job at the Ljubljana Secondary School of Arts and Crafts. He was Alojzij Gangl’s successor, who left great emptiness in the department of sculpture, as there were only a few students that were interested in sculpting. Repič soon brought order into the department, earning an important recognition as the “nestor” of Slovenian sculptors. All younger and extremely important sculptors started studying at the school, later developed their own style and thus gained more recognition, which still remains visible today. His students were: Kalin brothers, France Kralj, Lojze Dolinar, Ivan Napotnik and many others. Repič was not only interested in teaching sculpture, he also wanted to present the art of sculpting and its course of education to a wider audience by writing articles in the journal Učiteljski tovariš. During his teaching career, he was facing a major problem that appeared and is still present today – the lack of practical training in schools. Repič’s oeuvre is also presented in this thesis, which is certainly not comprehensive, but it is an important contribution to the recognition of the once exceptional educator and sculptor.
Keywords:Sculpture, academic realism, Alojzij Repič, educator, educational guidelines, catalogue of artworks.
