Abstract:Nasilje nas spremlja skozi celotno zgodovino človeštva.

Title:Methods of identifying domestic violence in kindergartens
Abstract:Violence has been present throughout the history of humankind in various forms. One of the forms is domestic violence which can differ in the manner and the intensity of it. Undoubtedly, children are the biggest victims of domestic violence. Their rights are severely violated when abused. Slovenian legislation suitably regulates this field and the role of all the institutions involved is to perform their role thoroughly and consistently. This is the only way for the protection system to work effectively. A kindergarten is a key institution for discovering domestic violence. It is important that the kindergarten education staff is aware of the problem of domestic violence, knows how to recognize the signs that prove a child is a victim of abuse, and is familiarized with the suitable legislation and procedures that come into force when domestic violence occurs. Preschool teachers and their assistants need to use methods which help them recognize a child who is a victim of domestic violence and consequently, offer the child protection and safe and encouraging environment. In this case the employees of the kindergarten should not have good neighbourly relations in mind, even if they know the family of the victim and thus the perpetrator of violence well. The research which has been carried out shows that the preschool teachers and their assistants are well informed with the problem of domestic violence, they recognize its signs through their working methods and know how to react accordingly. Tolerance of domestic violence is still highly present in the kindergartens in the countryside, however, most preschool teachers are not afraid of the consequences following the legal procedures initiated in case of suspected domestic violence.
