Title:Leisure activities in nursing homes and their impact on the well-being of the elderly in case of Dom Hmelina, d. o. o., Radlje
Abstract:In the master's thesis, we studied leisure activities in nursing homes and determined their impact on the well-being of the elderly. In the theoretical part, we described the aging process in the third period of life, examined trends and issues related to the aging population, and analysed the quality of life of the elderly and ways to prepare for a quality age. We touched on life in nursing homes and identified the reasons for staying there. We described the selected home for the elderly Dom Hmelina and presented the activities they carry out. In the empirical part, we conducted research in a selected home on how leisure activities there affect the lives of the elderly. We found that more than 75 % of seniors attend leisure activities daily, among which the most visited are picnics, birthday celebrations, and daily exercise. Those who stay longer in the home attend prayer classes more often, and less laughter yoga, which is more popular among newer residents. Elderly people estimate that they have enough options for choice and control and good relations with others, but depression, loneliness and the feeling that they are a burden to others are more common among residents who stay in the home longer. Older people, especially men, notice positive changes in life when participating in activities. More than 80 % of residents, especially younger ones, are able to make new acquaintances due to activities.
