Title:The development of games and toys in the first cycle of basic school in traffic safety education
Abstract:Playing is extremely important for every child, because it enables learning about and understanding the world in which it lives. It allows the child to experience different social roles, to be able to accept and set rules, and at the same time helps build self-confidence, communication, a positive attitude towards others, etc. Therefore, it is appreciated to bring various games into the classroom, so-called didactic games that have a clear goal from the national curriculum and represent an excellent support within the learning process. Not only will students become more motivated, active participants in the learning process, they will also have fun playing games. But most importantly, they will unknowingly learn or refresh learning material throughout the game. Each game content must also meet the subject and the child’s age level. Various authors have already written a lot about traffic which led to our decision to use all of our knowledge, considering a certain child’s age level, in didactic games. Children are namely still considered to be an extremely high-risk group in traffic, as they are largely unaware of the dangers that exist. In order to improve their knowledge of responsible traffic behavior and consequently their safety, we have developed 9 didactic games in the field of traffic safety education. Of these, three games are suitable for the first, three for the second, and three for the third grade of elementary school. They are intended to address topics in the subject of Learning about the Environment, especially the ones including traffic content, e.g. safety on the way to school, means of transport, the importance of the yellow neckerchief, important pedestrian traffic signs, etc. The games were designed to enable students to achieve various goals, educate themselves and repeat theoretical content from the field of transport, all of which will later be transferred into practice, into the real environment. Didactic games are home-made and a product of our own ideas. Therefore, any teacher can make them. They also contain game cards with tasks for each individual class that can be used while playing games. These games may also be used in small groups, in order to strengthen cooperation, develop team spirit, and experience "healthy" competition. Lastly, we prepared lesson plans for teachers for the implementation of lessons within the subject Learning about the Environment, within topics about traffic safety education, in which we gave content suggestions for the implementation of individual stages of the lesson and which included our didactic games that serve to repeat the acquired material in the last stage of the lesson.
