Abstract:Cilj diplomske naloge je preučiti adsorpcijske lastnosti šungita za adsorpcijo NO3, baker in lipofilnih snovi.

Title:Study of adsorption properties of shungite
Abstract:The aim of the thesis is the study of adsorption properties of shungite for NO_3^-, copper and lipophilic substances. For this purpose, we studied the characteristics of shungite itself (composition, specific surface area, zeta potential and FTIR spectroscopy). We first did a characterization of our shungite pattern. The results showed that the sample contained 98 % carbon and that its specific surface area was 11 m2/g. Measurement of the zeta potential on the surface of shungite showed value 18 mV which is close to 0 and means that the shungite surface is slightly positive charged. We also measured the particle size distribution and found that shungite aggregated and the particles were measured at 900 nm in size. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy proved that shungite contains two types of furelenes C_60 in C_70. In the diploma thesis we found that shungite is a very good adsorbent. In adsorption study of nitrate and low-volatile lipophilic substances, it has been shown that shungit is very effective with adsorption above 90 %. Copper adsorption occurred, but it was very slow and also less efficient. With adsorption studies in drinking water, we obtained somewhat poorer adsorption efficiencies compared with the model solutions. The results showed that removal efficiency of lipophilic substances from wastewater onto shungite was high.
