Abstract:Diplomsko delo zajema načrtovanje geometrije vetrne turbine, izdelavo modela in primerjavo merilnih rezultatov vetrnih turbin z različnim številom lopatic.

Title:Design of axial wind turbine rotor and experimental performance analysis
Abstract:The thesis includes the design of a wind turbine geometry, production of a model and the comparison of measurement results of wind turbines with different number of blades. The geometry of the wind turbine is shaped by Betz's theory. Before we started modeling it was necessary to determine the aerodynamic profile, chord length, blade twist angle and tip speed ratio. To obtain these parameters, we used the Xfoil program and equations from the literature. We used Solidworks software package for modeling. As part of the thesis we made several 3D models of wind turbines. The diameter of the wind turbine models measures 280mm and they differ in number of blades. The models were printed with a 3D printer and used to perform measurement on a test track in the Laboratory for turbine machines at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Maribor. The goal of the thesis is to compare operating characteristics of wind turbines with different number of blades. We focused on the comparison of normalized power coefficients c_pn and mechanical power. Measurement results show that the highest efficiency is achieved with a five-bladed wind turbine, but the highest mechanical power is achieved with three-bladed wind turbine. The measurements also show the importance of careful design of the wind turbine geometry.
