Za iskanje virov smo uporabili podatkovni bazi PubMed in Web of Science. Posamezne študije z intervencijo visoko intenzivnega treninga so potrdile bistveno izboljšane simptome shizofrenije.

Title:Impact of strength training and endurance training on symptoms of schizophrenia
Abstract:Abstract Introduction: Research into the effect of physical activity on schizophrenia is scarce compared to that on milder mental disorders. Schizophrenia is characterized by positive and negative symptoms; antipsychotic therapy is moderately effective only in treating the positive symptoms. Strength and endurance training may be effective, affordable and easily accessible methods for treating symptoms and other consequences of schizophrenia. Methods: This bachelor’s thesis is based on literature review, with use of descriptive method. Inclusion criteria were scientific papers published between 2010 and 2020 in English, referring to physical activity and symptoms of schizophrenia. Search for literature was conducted with use of PubMed and Web of Science databases and shown in a table. The narrowing of research literature was displayed in Prisma diagram. The narrowest selection of literature was analyzed and synthesized. Results: Eight studies were included in the analysis. While results are mixed, positive impact of high-intensity endurance training on schizophrenia symptoms has been shown. Exercise has proven more effective with negative symptoms than positive symptoms. Well-structured strength training proved effective in alleviating positive and negative symptoms. Discussion: Intensity seems to be key in effectiveness of training for relieving symptoms of schizophrenia. Sufficient training intensity has significantly improved symptoms of schizophrenia in several studies. Conclusion: Physical activity in the form of structured training has shown great potential in relieving symptoms and negative health consequences in schizophrenia. More quality research is needed to draw conclusions and create an optimal exercise program for patients with schizophrenia. Nevertheless, we can already conclude that physical activity is of paramount importance.
