Abstract:V prašičereji se rejci pretežno poslužujejo dveh načinov oplojevanja svinj.

Title:Comparison of litter size, piglet loss during lactation and litter sex ratio between harem and planned mating in the krškopolje pig
Abstract:In pig production, two methods of sow insemination are practiced. Artificial insemination is the mostly commonly used, although natural mating, either harem or planned mating, is also relatively common. While studies comparing reproductive performance of artificial insemination and natural mating are relatively well represented, there are actually no comparative studies on different types of natural mating. Therefore, this study aimed to compare reproductive/litter measures between harem and planned mating. In the study 21 sows which underwent 145 successful matings (resulting letters) were included. Among them 78 litters resulted from planned and 67 from harem mating. The results showed no significant differences in any of the litter measures (liveborn, stillborn, lactation loses, sex ratio) between different types of natural mating (p ≥ 0.05). Statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) occurred only in the number of stillborn piglets when mating type and parity were combined as fixed factors, with more stillborn piglets in early parity (1-3) at the harem mating, while in the planned mating stillborn piglets increased in late parity (7-11). The results suggest that with proper implementation, there is no difference in the reproductive success between different types of natural mating. However, when choosing a type of natural mating, sow parity should be taken into account.
