Abstract:V delu diplomskega projekta predstavljamo trg plemenitih kovin, torej trg zlata, srebra, platine in paladija. Plemenite kovine imajo pomembno vlogo v zgodovini razvoja svetovne trgovine in v denarnih sistemih.

Title:Precious metals markets and the world economy
Abstract:This thesis introduces the market of precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Precious metals play an important role in the development history of world trade and monetary systems. The supply side of precious metals consists of newly excavated ores and recycling or processing. The demand for precious metals can be divided into jewellery usage, industrial and investment purposes. Silver, platinum and palladium are mostly used for industrial purposes. Due to possible major global issues, gold has maintained an important validity in the portfolio of central banks. Precious metals serve as alternative investment assets for protection against global insecurities. What investors fear most is inflation, which is why increased inflation usually increases the (investment) demand for precious metals, thus resulting in the increase of their prices. We have introduced results of different studies dealing with the question whether precious metals are a good protection against inflation. The empirical results are not entirely homogenous, but we can conclude that gold can be a good inflation hedge in the long run.
