Abstract:V letih 2017 in 2018 je bilo veliko število hollywoodskih igralcev obtoženih spolno neprimernega obnašanja kot del gibanja Me Too.

Title:The influence of scandals in actors' personal lives on the perception of characters they play in tv shows - a comparison of american and slovenian audiences
Abstract:Several Hollywood actors were accused of sexual misconduct in 2017 and 2018 as part of the Me Too movement. In this master's thesis we researched how (and if at all) these scandals in actor's private lives influenced the audience's perceptions of the shows they were in and the characters they portrayed. We decided to do a comparison of how Slovenian and American audiences differ in their perceptions of these scandals. We focused on three actors (Kevin Spacey, Aziz Ansari, and Danny Masterson) and the shows they were in. The first part of the thesis is theoretical. We researched how parasocial relationships develop between fictional characters and real-life audiences and what factors can end these relationships. Then we focused on specific cases from the Me Too movement and contextualized accusations against the actors. For the empirical part of the thesis, we conducted a questionnaire, which Slovenian and American audiences answered. We had 179 people participating in the questionnaire (131 Slovenians and 48 Americans). We compared and analyzed answers from both audiences and then looked at how nationality and gender influenced their perceptions.
