Abstract:Temeljni cilj slovenske policije je zagotoviti notranjo varnost v Republiki Sloveniji, katero lahko zagotovijo zgolj z zagotavljanjem varnosti ljudi in premoženja, vzdrževanjem javnega reda in miru, odkrivanjem in preiskovanjem kaznivih dejanj, nadzorom državne meje ter nadzorovanjem in urejanjem cestnega prometa.

Title:Comparison of motor sklill assessment in slovenian police and the republics of former yugoslavia
Abstract:The main goal of Slovenian Police is to ensure the safety in the Republic of Slovenia, which can be achieved by ensuring the safety of people and property, maintaining public order, discovering and investigating criminal offenses, controlling state borders and by controlling road traffic. A policeman must be in good physical condition and must have well developed motor skills to carry out all the required duties. These two factors are also beneficial in reducing the risk of stress in the workplace. They also have positive effects on efficiency, health, self-confidence and on accuracy when the policeman is required to use coercive measures and firearms. A part of the education program which is required if one wants to become a part of Slovenian Police, is a mandatory test of physical capabilities. The test checks the motor skills which are required for a successful career in police. In the thesis, there are indicators which show the importance of well-developed motor skills and the problems of poor physical condition in regards to the successful carrying out of police duties. What is more, the thesis also includes the description of Slovenian Police, required motor skills and the test of physical capabilities which is necessary for all the candidates. In addition to the Slovene test, there is also a description of the tests of physical capabilities which are carried out in the republics of Former Yugoslavia. After the presentation of each and every test in the countries of Former Yugoslavia, there is a comparison between Slovenian and foreign test to find out if there are significant differences between the aforementioned tests. The comparison also includes if those tests really check all of the required motor skills which are necessary in the police. The results have shown that there is a difference between the Slovene test and the tests in the republics of Former Yugoslavia. To measure a particular motor skill there are different tests and criteria in each country and some of the motor skills which are important and thoroughly tested in Slovenian Police are not that important in other countries. The test of physical capabilities in Slovenian police is very well structured, because it covers a huge part of one’s motor skills. If the candidates want to meet the standards which are necessary for employment in Slovenian Police, then they must be in a good physical condition.
