Abstract:Uvod: Transfuzija krvi in krvnih pripravkov je eden pogostejših načinov zdravljenja različnih bolezni in bolezenskih stanj.

Title:Nurses´ perception and opinion on safe tranfusion of blood and blood preparations
Abstract:Introduction: Blood and blood products transfusion is one of the most common ways to treat various diseases and medical conditions. It is a complex intervention which can result in many complications and consequences. In Slovenia transfusions are carried out in health institutions at secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare and are performed by registered nurses in multi-disciplinary collaboration with other operators of chain transfusion. The aim of this diploma thesis is to conduct research on nurses’ perception and opinion on blood transfusion safety and safe blood products. Methods: The survey was based on quantitative methodology with the philosophy of positivism. A monitoring study was conducted with the data, submitted in a tailored questionnaire, where a method of sampling was used. The analysis was carried out with the methods of descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: It is shown that there are no statistically significant data of protocol and standard knowledge among nurses, who frequently carry out blood product transfusion application (p=0,448). It was noted that the maximum awareness of nurses on safe transfusion is in the phase of transfusion reaction (x ̅=4,85; s=0,200), whereas the minimum awareness is in the phase before transfusion (x ̅=4,01; s=0,446). Discussion and summary: It is extremely important for nurses to be aware of blood transfusion safety and safe blood products which can be achieved by regular education and upgrading of their skills throughout the complete process of transfusion.
