Abstract:Magistrsko delo obravnava črno smrt na Apeninskem polotoku, s poudarkom na širjenje kuge v Toskani in na Siciliji sredi 14. stoletja. Prvi del zajema splošen opis črne smrti, njen prenos in potek bolezni, potek življenja ljudi in njihovi odzivi na kugo ter kratek pregled kuge skozi zgodovino. Sledi kratek opis širjenja črne smrti v 14. stoletju po Evropi in njenega izvora. Opisano je tudi politično in gospodarsko dogajanje na Apeninskem polotoku pred prihodom kuge. Nato sledi obravnava Toskane in Sicilije v času širjenja črne smrti. V zadnjem delu je primerjava virov, gospodarstva in smrtnosti na področjih Toskane in Sicilije. Ključni cilj magistrskega dela je predvsem primerjava dokumentiranih virov o širjenju kuge in izdanih ukrepov v toskanskih mestnih državah in na Siciliji.

Title:Black Death on the Apennine Peninsula - the Case of Sicily and Tuscany
Abstract:The master’s thesis aims to present the spread of the Black Death across the Apennine Peninsula in the middle of the 14th century with the emphasis on the spread in Tuscany and Sicily. The first part of the thesis consists of a general description of the Black Death, the transmission and course of the disease, an insight into the life of the population and their reactions to the plague, and a short review of the plague through history. The thesis continues with a summary of the origin of the Black Death and its expansion throughout the 14th century Europe, followed by the presentation of political and economic events before the outbreak. Later on, the thesis focuses on the presence of the Black Death in Tuscany and Sicily. The final part of the paper contains a comparison of different historical sources regarding the Black Death in Tuscany and Sicily, and a comparison of economy and mortality rates between Tuscany and Sicily. The main goal of the master’s thesis is to present the similarities and differences of various documents regarding the plague and the measures, which were declared in Sicily and the city-states of Tuscany.
