Title:Passion and perservance at work for tourist guides in Slovenia
Abstract:Way of perception of work or profession is important in one's life. Work engagement is only one among many factors, which consequently affect one’s satisfaction at work and achievement of goals as well as success. Ways of developing interests, persisting to achieve the objective despite obstacles, finding meaning repeatedly and being satisfied at it – all are extremely important from a very early age. The dissertation focuses on researching passion and perseverance, which together represent grit. A particular attention was devoted to a group of tour guides. We tried to understand their commitment to work and personal satisfaction with it. For the empirical part, a quantitative study was carried out among a sample of the Slovenian tour guide population. When analysing the data and discussing with individuals, the emphasis is on comparing the link between passion, perseverance and personal satisfaction. The link between grit and the certainty of practising the profession in the future is also defined. It is noted that perseverance is more important for Slovenian tour guides than passion. However, in the present situation there is no assurance that they could, in defiance of being committed, practice the profession in the future. We point out the current situation in the world, associated with COVID-19 and its impact on tourism. We present some possibilities of further research as well as ways of practical application of our findings.
