Title:The research of developmental milestones for communication domain in heterogenous and homogeneous groups
Abstract:The theoretical part of the task presents the importance of communication and three types of communication; social communication, expressive communication and receptive communication, which are very important in the pre-school development period for social, speech and language development. We analysed the importance of heterogeneous and homogeneous groups, the connection with the communication development, according to the type of the group in which the child is involved. In the empirical part of my work, the results of a study are presented; what kind of children reach developmental milestones in communication more often and whether there are differences between boys and girls according to the type of communication.Data were obtained using assessment sheets for all three types of communication. The study collected data for 69 children aged 1 to 5 years. The results showed that in homogeneous groups, children were more likely to achieve developmental milestones than in heterogeneous groups in the first and second age period. The analysis of gender differences showed that girls were statistically significantly more likely to achieve developmental milestones in the first age period in all three types of communication. In the second age period, girls still achieve higher average values on most items, but the differences between girls and boys are no longer as distinct.
Keywords:social communication, receptive communication, expressive communication, early childhood education.
