Title:Non-Commercial concert venues in Slovenija
Abstract:In this master's thesis, I research non-commercial concert venues in Slovenia. Stages that work permanently and continuously organise concerts. Associations are organised as youth centres or public institutions related to youth. They operate in rented municipal places or places of state institutions and offices; they rarely own their venues. In certain cases, they function as a squats. These are permanent concert venues that enable the development of music audiences with concerts or various musical styles. Many date back in the 1960’s and are well established all over Europe and globally, as they regularly host bands from different parts of the world. These venues are a fine opportunity for young musicians who need a place to rehearse and establish contact with audiences; thus, they helped them to gain recognition in Slovenia and elsewhere. As important cultural crossroads, these organisations develop critical thinking and, even more important, critical listeners. In the thesis existing and some already closed clubs are presented from organisational and historical points of view and diverse musical styles they house.
