Title:Sustainable tourism development himalaya - manaslu
Abstract:Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world, with 8163 meters above the sea level. A 180 km long walkway leads around Manaslu and spoils trekkers with untouched nature, friendly people and unforgettable views. The purpose of this paper is to provide a strategy for sustainable tourism development and present an integral tourism product of the Manaslu area, which could serve as an example of good practice for other destinations as well. The first part of the paper focuses on a literature review, which acted as a basis for setting guidelines for sustainable tourism development. Our analysis presents negative and positive impacts of tourism on the environment. By conducting a SWOT analysis, we analysed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of sustainable tourism in the Manaslu area. With a questionnaire, which was divided into four sections, comprising institutional, economical, sociocultural and environmental aspects, we wanted to find out how tourism affects the local population. The results were then processed and presented. The final part of the paper gives guidelines for sustainable tourism development, with the help of which we could fulfil our goal, and it presents the integral tourism product.
