Razprava in sklep: Dojenček nam z jokom sporoča svoje čustveno in fiziološko stanje.

Title:Differentiation of infant crying types among pediatric health professionals
Abstract:Introduction: In this thesis, we defined the infant’s non-verbal communication or its means of expression – crying, as well as presented different types of infant cries and how they are distinguished among healthcare professionals in the paediatric field. In this thesis, we wanted to discover if and how the paediatrics medical staff differentiates between the types of infant cries. Methodology: The quantitative research and the descriptive research method were used. In the study, we used a questionnaire consisting of 32 questions, which was filled out by employees of a paediatric clinic in north-eastern Slovenia. Results: During the research process, we determined with the help of the questionnaire that employees in the paediatric field recognise and distinguish different types of infant cries. The majority of employees successfully recognise an infant’s cry and thus also influence the satisfaction of its needs. Most employees believe that a good knowledge of different types of infant cries is based on the nurse’s emotional intelligence. Discussion and conclusion: An infant communicates its emotional and physiological state to us through crying. It is essential that the paediatric staff (in infant wards) are familiar with different types of crying, as this is the only way they can be successful in meeting the infant’s needs. When communicating with an infant in a hospital environment, the nurse must be particularly careful, must act thoughtfully, and always for the benefit of the infant. Emotional intelligence is also important, as it enriches the nurse and adds value to her communication skills with the infant.
