Title:BARBIE CULTURE AND THE PLASTIC WORLD OF INSTAGRAM
Abstract:The similarity between the Barbie doll and the online posts on Instagram is that both are likable and attractive - you could say perfect. The Barbie doll was created to make girls imagine that they can become whatever they want. Her visual component is the representation of an idealized image, which represents the ideal of the female body, although it has nothing to do with reality. On a daily basis, we are exposed to idealized images that are with the help of social media so widespread that we can practically not escape them. The impact of those images on our lives is the subject of numerous researches. In users, perfect images and lives tend to awaken a desire to imitate, as shown by the similarities between posts on Instagram. They can also encourage inspiration and stimulation, as well as dissatisfaction, poor self-esteem, and can even be a burden. To draw attention to the discrepancy between the real and ideal body, and to get better insight into the impact of idealized images and the generally accepted retouching of photos, we conducted a survey that helped us confirm or disprove the given hypothesis.
