Abstract:Koronapandemija je spodbudila številne spremembe po vsem svetu in s tem tudi vpeljala novo terminologijo. Nastale so nove besede, že uveljavljene besede so dobile novi ali dodaten pomen in številne besede strokovnega izrazja so prešle v splošno izrazje.

Title:Translation of Coronavirus-Related Terms in Slovenian Print Magazines and Creation of a Trilingual Glossary
Abstract:The covid-19 pandemic caused many changes around the world, including introducing new terminology. New words were coined, existing words acquired new or additional meaning, and many terminological terms are now used as a part of everyday speech. The thesis focuses on the analyses of translations of terms related to the new coronavirus and covid-19, i.e. corona terminology, in Slovenian print magazines Mladina and Global. Both journals publish translations of current professional articles from renowned world journals and newspapers, such as Der Spiegel, The Guardian and The New York Times, and thus mention new or transformed terms. The aim of the research is to determine whether the articles are adequately translated, which translation strategies were used, and to create a comprehensive trilingual glossary of the corona terminology, which will include entries in Slovenian, German and English. The theoretical part introduces the linguistic genres of the Slovenian language according to Toporišič (2004), German according to Löffler (1995) and Hoffmann (2007) and English according to M.A.K. Halliday (2005), print media and new online versions, then newspapers and magazines from which the material for the translation analysis was taken. We also intoduced an overview of the functionalist approach and Vermeer's general skopos theory (Reiß & Vermeer, 1991), translation strategies according to the theoretical foundations by Vinay and Dalbernet (1995), Peter Newmark (2000) and Mona Baker (2011), and the basics of terminology according to Žagar Karer (2011) and Vintar (2008). We described the coronavirus and covid-19 and analyze translations of new terminology. IIn the empirical part, the research compares the source language texts of the German and English originals with the Slovenian translations in Mladina and Global. In parallel, we created a trilingual glossary from the extracted coronavirus-related terms.
