Title:Workplace stressors and mental health of Slovene police officers - Moderating role of stress mindset
Abstract:The profession of a police officer is one of the most demanding, as police officers have to do their job regardless of the demands they have to face or the situations in which they find themselves. That is why it is important that they are mentally and physically healthy . In the master's thesis we wanted to study the effect of stress mindset on the relationship between potentially stressful situations at work and various aspects of mental health and perceived stress of police officers. We were also interested in the relationships between measured variables. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses were used in the study. In the first case, 331 Slovenian police officers were involved, and in the second 52 less. In addition to basic demographic questions, the study also used items to measure perceived stress, subscales of the PSQ questionnaire, and questionnaires SMM-G, ITS, MDRS-22, and SWEMWBS. Some items with free-format questions were also included to check what are the sources of stress in police officers and what is their perception of the psychological help available in the Police. According to the results of the study, it seems that stress mindset affects an individual's perception of stress, but does not protect against the negative effects of increased stress on mental health. Despite some limitations of the research, we believe that it significantly contributes to the understanding of the relationship between the measured constructs and knowledge of the current mental health of Slovenian police officers.
