Abstract:Magistrsko delo teoretično in empirično obravnava obsesivno-kompulzivni fenomen pri neklinični populaciji ter raziskuje vlogo zaznanih vzgojnih stilov staršev in posameznikovega perfekcionizma kot dejavnike razvoja in vzdrževanja obsesivno-kompulzivnih simptomov. Podatke smo pridobili preko spletnega apliciranja vprašalnika o doživljanju obsesivno-kompulzivnih simptomov, vprašalnika starševske avtoritete in lestvice perfekcionizma.

Title:The relation of parenting styles to perfectionism and obsessive-compulsive symptomatology in a non- clinical population
Abstract:The master's thesis theoretically and empirically deals with the obsessive-compulsive phenomenon in the non-clinical population and explores the role of perceived parenting styles and individual perfectionism as factors in the development and maintenance of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. In the conducted research, we checked whether there are important connections between the Slovene general population, the constructs considered and to what extent the parenting style and dimensions of individual perfectionism predict obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The study involved 182 people aged between 18 and 86 years. The data were obtained through the online application of a questionnaire on the experience of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, a questionnaire of parental authority and a scale of perfectionism. The results of the analyzes showed that in the Slovenian sample of the general population there are statistically significant: positive connections between the authoritarian parenting style of parents and the level of individual perfectionism and all its dimensions; negative connections between the authoritative parenting style of the parents and the level of the individual's perfectionism and its maladaptive dimensions; negative connections between the permissive parenting style of parents and the level of individual perfectionism and some maladaptive and adaptive dimensions. Certain dimensions of perfectionism and the authoritarian and authoritative upbringing style of the father proved to be important predictors of obsessive-compulsive symptomatology. The relation between the father’s authoritarian upbringing style and the degree of obsessive-compulsive symptoms is moderated by the construct of perfectionism. The findings of the research contribute to an in-depth understanding of the obsessive-compulsive phenomenon and are transferable to both clinical and academic contexts.
