Magistrsko delo predstavlja pregled obstoječih metod recikliranja kompozitnih odpadkov z vgrajenimi steklenimi vlakni, s poudarkom na ohranitvi vlaken in njihovih lastnosti. Največ pozornosti smo namenili metodam kemijskega recikliranja in sicer depolimerizacijskim metodam.

Title:Chemical recycling of glass fibre reinforced composites
Abstract:The increasing use of glass reinforced composites has raised awareness of methods by which be used composite can be recycled and the material reused. Every year, tons of composite waste is generated from various applications that contain valuable glass fibers. This composite waste need to be recycled in a cost effective manner without causing a negative impact on the environment. This master thesis gives an overview of existing methods for recycling composite waste with embedded glass fibers, focusing on the preservation of the fibers and their properties. We paid the most attention to chemical recycling methods, namely depolymerization methods. We wanted to use them to separate the fibers from the polymer carrier, and also to preserve the mechanical properties of the fibers. We chose neutral and alkaline hydrolysis processes and aminolysis. We also focused on the influence of reaction conditions on the product of neutral and alkaline hydrolysis, especially the influence of reaction time. But we also looked for the best ways to isolate the end products. Although no intact glass fibers were obtained by neutral and alkaline hydrolysis, monomeric unit of polymer carrier-terephthalic acid was obtained by base-acid extraction. In the process of aminolysis, undamaged glass fibers were obtained in addition to the depolymerization product of the polymeric carrier BHET (bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate.
