Abstract:Uvod: Humor in smeh nas spremljata vse življenje in sta pomemben vir povezovanja med ljudmi.

Title:Influence of humour and laughter therapy on elderly care
Abstract:Introduction: Humour and laughter accompany us all our lives and are an essential source of connection between people. It is a cognitive, emotional style of handling the various situations that an individual experiences in their daily life. Research has found that humour supports the processes of healing and coping with illness, and above all, it has a significant psychological level. Nevertheless, this excellent therapeutic communication is avoided too many times in nursing. Methods: The review of the literature was conducted in English, German and Slovenian languages. A search was conducted in PubMed, CINHAL and Science Direct. To show the selection of articles from databases, we used a diagram of the flow of resource search according to the recommendations of PRISMA. We limited ourselves to articles on a selected topic that were no older than ten years. Results: Humour has been found to profoundly affect a person’s well-being, reducing depression, stress, anxiety, agitation, and increasing happiness. It is an effective method of establishing new contacts with patients and an excellent tool for creating an efficient, orderly, and relaxed work environment. So, the use of humour provides excellent conditions for a well-executed nursing process. Discussion and conclusion: Using humour makes it easier to establish contact with a new patient or an older person, which positively affects the entire process of nursing. Humour takes fear, stress, excitement, depression and increases happiness, which also positively affects the implementation of nursing. So, it is an integral part of therapeutic communication that can be used not only in the elderly but in the entire population.
