Title:Modeling of a liquid-liquid gravitation separators
Abstract:Due to the high costs of the separation process which incur in chemical production sites, we have decided to optimize the dimensions of a horizontal liquid-liquid gravity separator with a barrier. The aim of the thesis was to create a model of the separator and optimize its . With the help of formulas obtained while researching the literature we developed a model using the GAMS software tool and optimized it in a programming language which the computer was able to process. In order to compare the results we performed a simulation of the model using the PTC Mathcad program. With the GAMS software we created a model which simultaneously optimizes itself during the process, unlike in the program PTC Mathcad, where the optimization depends only on the user's trial and error. As a result we compared the final volume of the separation vessel, where we were able to conclude that the volume obtained using the GAMS program was smaller than the one obtained with the PTC Mathcad program. This indicates that the goal of our task was successfully set, as we have proven the correctness of the created model and minimized the final volume of the separator. Our results show that optimisation can contribute to a better economic situation in real word.
