Title:Emocionalna inteligentnost kot mediator odnosa med otroškim trpinčenjem in temno triado : magistrsko delo

Abstract:Doživljanje trpinčenja v otroštvu se pogosto negativno povezuje s številnimi izhodi v življenju, med drugim tudi s šibkejšimi emocionalnimi zmožnostmi, hkrati pa lahko otroško trpinčenje predstavlja dejavnik tveganja za razvoj dimnezij temne triade, ki veljajo za družbeno neželene in škodljive osebnostne lastnosti. V magistrski nalogi smo tako želeli preučiti povezanost doživljanja trpinčenja v otroštvu z emocionalno inteligentnostjo ter dimenzijami temne triade in preveriti, ali emocionalna inteligentnost predstavlja mediator v odnosu med otroškim trpinčenjem in temno triado. V naši raziskavi je sodelovalo skupaj 575 posameznikov, starih med 18 in 77 let. 72,3% udeležencev je bilo ženskega spola, 27,7% pa moškega spola. Za namen raziskovanja izbranih konstruktov smo uporabili Vprašalnik doživljenega otroškega trpinčenja, Vprašalnik Temne triade ter Vprašalnik emocionalne inteligentnosti. Izpeljane statistične analize kažejo na negativno povezanost med doživljenim otroškim trpinčenjem in emocionalno inteligentnostjo. Prav tako sta bili utrjeni negativni povezavi med otroškim trpinčenjem ter makiavelizmom in psihopatijo, medtem ko se povezava med narcisizmom in otroškim trpinčenjem ni pokazala kot statistično pomembna. Narcisizem z emocionalno inteligentnostjo korelira pozitivno, makiavelizem in psihopatija pa se z emocionalno inteligentnostjo povezujeta negativno. Mediacijske analize so pokazale, da emocionalna inteligetnost predstavlja delni mediator v odnosu med otroškim trpinčenjem in vsako od dimenzij Temne triade. Ženske udeleženke so v povprečju pogosteje poročale o doživljenem trpinčenju v otroštvu; statistično pomembna razlika med spoloma se je pokazala v čustvenem zanemarjanju ter spolni zlorabi. Zanimiva ugotovitev naše raziskave je doseganje višjih rezultatov na vprašalniku emocionalne inteligentnosti s strani moških, kar pomeni, da so moški v povprečju emocionalni inteligentnejši od ženskih udeleženk.

Title:Emotional intelligence as a mediator of the relationship between child abuse and the dark triad
Abstract:The experience of childhood abuse is often negatively associated with many outcomes in life, including weak emotional abilities, and child abuse can be a risk factor for developing dark triad dimensions, which are considered socially undesirable and harmful personality traits. In the master's thesis we wanted to study the relation between the experience of childhood abuse and emotional intelligence and the dimensions of the dark triad and to check whether emotional intelligence is a mediator in the relationship between child abuse and the dark triad. A total of 575 individuals aged between 18 and 77 participated in our study. 72.3% of participants were women and 27.7% were man. In order to research the selected constructs, we used the Questionnaire of Experienced Child Abuse, the Questionnaire of the Dark Triad and the Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence. Derived statistical analyzes show a negative correlation between the experienced child abuse and emotional intelligence. Negative links between child abuse and machiavellianism and psychopathy were also demonstrated, while the link between narcissism and child abuse did not prove to be statistically significant. Narcissism correlates positively with emotional intelligence, and machiavellianism and psychopathy negatively correlate with emotional intelligence. Mediation analyzes have shown that emotional intelligence is a partial mediator in the relationship between child abuse and each of the dimensions of the dark triad. Female participants were, on average, more likely to report childhood abuse; a statistically significant difference between the sexes was shown in emotional neglect and sexual abuse. An interesting finding of our research is that higher results were achieved on the emotional intelligence questionnaire by men, which means that men are, on average, more emotionally intelligent than female participants.
