Abstract:e-Odpadki vključujejo različne vrste elektronskih naprav; od pomivalnih strojev, hladilnikov do pametnih telefonov.

Title:e-Waste and information security
Abstract:e-Waste includes various types of electronic devices; from dishwashers, refrigerators to smartphones. In the master's thesis, we focused on electronic devices that can contain personal data, such as personal computers, laptops, smartphones and more. These devices monitor us for days, months or years and contain large amounts of information about us, our family and our organization. The problem with e-waste is that our electronic devices can still contain personal and sensitive data even after being discarded, sold or donated - if the data has not been adequately removed. As part of the master's thesis, a survey was conducted to determine how respondents manage e-waste, whether they are aware of the threats associated with e-waste and limitations of data deletion, and their experience with cybercrime. It was found that factory resetting and formatting of the device and manual deletion of data do not guarantee irreversable removal of data. The data may still be stored in the device’s memory and may be vulnerable to third parties who would misuse the data for cybercrime. Using multiple regression, it was found that the better the knowledge of respondents with data erasure restrictions and the greater their experience with cybercrime, the more they are inclined to implement data erasure measures. The master's thesis presents the scope of e-waste, the threats associated with this type of waste and ways to ensure the safe erasure of data from electronic devices based on known standards and guidelines.
