Abstract:	Koze so čedalje pomembnejša rejna vrsta živali in kljub temu da je raziskav, ki temeljijo na preučevanju obnašanja rejnih živali vedno več, rezultati velikokrat niso prenosljivi. Zaradi problematike ponovljivosti študij in prenosu dognanj v širši kontekst, so se začele sprožati iniciative raziskovalcev o izvajanju istovrstnih raziskav in metodologij na več mestih in v več ponovitvah, kot sta ManyDogs in ManyBirds in kakršen bo tudi novonastajajoč mednarodni konzorcij raziskovalcev s področja obnašanja domačih živali ManyGoats, katerega ustanovna članica je tudi UM FKBV. Cilj iniciative je izboljšati vrednost in težo rezultatov z izvajanjem identičnih eksperimentalnih protokolov, v različnih oblikah rej po vsem svetu in spodbujati večjo učinkovitost raziskav s pomočjo omrežja, na katerem bomo delili svoje znanje. Iniciativa bo delovala na podlagi načel odprte znanosti, kar pomeni, da bo delo pregledno, vključujoče in lahko dostopno. V delu bomo predstavili prvi pilotni protokol »ManyGoats1«, pri katerem bomo testirali razdaljo umika. Izdelali smo še dva dodatna protokola »ManyGoats2«, test z izolacijo in »ManyGoats3«, izvedbo poskusa z govorom, namenjenim dojenčkom in družnim živalim. Ključna naloga konzorcija bo ponovitev oz. uporaba istih metodoloških pristopov pri proučevanju interakcije koz s človekom s strani raziskovalcev vključenih v to mrežo – torej na/v drugih živalih/pasmah, geografskih območjih, načinih reje, mikrookoljih ipd. Z usklajevanjem raziskovalnih pristopov na več lokacijah po vsem svetu bo mogoče sistematično izkoristiti razlike med lokacijami, kar izboljša robustnost rezultatov in njihovo prenosljivost, kar je ključnega pomena za optimizacijo rej in zagotavljanje visokih standardov dobrega počutja živali.

Title:	Research on the Behavioral Response of Goats to Humans - the Project »ManyGoats«; Literature Review and Case Study
Abstract:	Goats are an increasingly important livestock species, and although there is a growing body of research investigating farm animals’ behaviour, the results are often not transferable or applicable in other scenarios. Due to the problem of reproducibility of studies and transferring the results to a broader context, many different research initiatives have been launched that try to conduct similar studies and apply the same methods in different locations and in multiple replicates to get a broader context for a specific animal behaviour. Some examples of these initiatives are ManyDogs and ManyBirds, as well as the emerging international research consortium ManyGoats, of which the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences UM is a founding member. The aim of the ManyGoats initiative is to improve the value and accuracy of results by using identical experimental protocols in different breeding practises around the world, and to promote greater research efficiency through a network where researchers can share their knowledge. The initiative will operate according to the principles of open science, which means that the work will be transparent, inclusive to all and easily accessible. In this paper we present the first pilot protocol, "ManyGoats1", which we will use to test the withdrawal distance. We have developed two further protocols, "ManyGoats2", an isolation test, and "ManyGoats3", a protocol that will test the behaviour of animals that are approached while talking with different pitches. The main task of the initiative will be to replicate the methodological approaches to study the interaction of goats with humans by the researchers involved in this initiative, i.e. different breeding methods, different animals/breeds, locations, etc. By coordinating the research approaches at multiple sites around the world, it is possible to systematically exploit the differences between sites. This improves the results and makes them more robust, which is crucial for optimising goat breeding technologies and ensuring high animal welfare standards.
