Abstract:Mala in srednja podjetja nosijo osrednjo vlogo v večini gospodarstev, tako ustvarjajo še kako potrebna delovna mesta in pripomorejo k svetovnemu gospodarskemu razvoju.

Title:The importance of factoring as an external source of finance for smes
Abstract:SMEs play a central role in most economies, creating much-needed jobs and contributing to global economic development. However, they can be constrained by various factors, including access to different sources of finance. Thus, various crises and periods of economic shocks have affected the importance of these sources and have stimulated the development and use of new, alternative forms. The main focus of the thesis is the relevance of one of these alternative financing instruments, factoring, for SMEs. Factoring allows entrepreneurs to finance their activities and increase their liquidity by selling their receivables to a specialised institution- factor. By looking at the use of factoring for SMEs at EU and national level, we have observed that factoring is generally one of the less used sources of external financing. However, given the use of factoring after the global financial crisis, we can expect that factoring can be a good solution to obtain finance, even in the current period of recovery from the pandemic. Although the importance of factoring among SMEs varies across EU countries, this suggests a large potential for the development of the factoring market, which can only further contribute to the further diversification of sources of finance and thus reduce the limiting factors for SME development.
