Title:Tourism architecture of edo mihevc in the Slovenian Istria
Abstract:After the end of the Second World War, the Friuli Venezia Giulia region was a contested teritory, with both Democratic Federal Yugoslavia (later the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia) and Italy laying claim to it. The Yugoslav side attempted to improve the economic growth in the part of the mentioned region under their control by stimulating growth of the mass tourism sector. The hotel architecture raised at the same time additionally served as the country's representation of its politics, a sort of a »display window«. The urban management and the planning of tourist facilities in the Slovene Istria was relegated to Edo Mihevc in 1955 (1911–1985), a Slovene architect, urban planner and pedagogue at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. The architect's works are mostly concentrated in Ljubljana and the Slovene Istria, the latter of which was completely monopolised by Mihevc up until the 1970s, and consequently gained a unified architectural image. This part of Mihevc's work was up to now only analysed in the context of surveys encompassing the architect's entire opus, with only individual examples of tourist architecture ever analysed (holiday resorts, natels and individual hotels), leaving this partof Mihevc's opus largely not researched.
