Abstract:Republika Hrvaška je leta 2013 postala 27. Z vstopom v evrsko območje članice pridobijo še večje koristi, saj vstop v evrsko območje odpravlja valutno tveganje, znižuje transakcijske stroške pretvorbe valut ter prinaša dostop do vzajemnih skladov in večjo konkurenčnost gospodarstva. Glavna tveganja uvedbe evra so izguba neodvisne denarne politike, enkratni stroški konverzije in tveganje dviga cen.

Title:Introduction of the euro in Croatia
Abstract:In 2013, the Republic of Croatia became the 27th member of the European Union, which means that it is the youngest member. By joining the European Union, Croatia has gained many advantages, such as entering a large European market, freer movement of goods, labor and capital, greater competitiveness than non-member countries, financing projects from EU funds, which has led to an overall improvement in the economy. All Member States have the option of joining the euro area, ie to adopt the euro as their national currency. By joining the euro area, members gain even greater benefits by eliminating currency risk, transaction costs of currency conversion, access to mutual funds and greater competitiveness of the economy. Croatia joined the ERM II mechanism in 2020 and is currently in the so-called "waiting room", where it will be for two years as a condition for adopting the euro. Given that the Covid-19 pandemic is currently prevalent in the world, all economies are affected, which means that Croatia's entry into the eurozone was even more difficult. Regardless of all the challenges, Croatia will take upon the euro currency from 1st of January 2023. The introduction of the euro means new benefits for Croatia, as well as new risks. The main advantages are the elimination of currency risk and the reduction of currency conversion costs, which will make the Croatian economy more attractive to potential partners. The main risks of the introduction of the euro are the loss of independent monetary policy, one-off conversion costs and the risk of rising prices. After comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the introduction of the euro, we can conclude that Croatia will have more benefits than harms.
