Title:Numerical fluidized bed modeling using a two-fluid flow model based on kinetic theory of granular flow
Abstract:Fluidized bed is a physical phenomenon used in many industries. It is a phenomenon in which particles move from their stationary condition and start floating due to the fluid passing over their surface. In this master’s thesis we focused on the analysis of the fluidized bed physical phenomenon which we analyzed using experimental measurements of the pressure drop inside the laboratory fluidized bed device. The process was transferred into a virtual environment, where we evaluated pressure drops in our system using a numerical simulation. Results of this simulation were compared to experimental results. The validation of the numerical model was successful and we obtained a good match between numerical and experimental results. After validation the numerical model was used to determine the influence of the distribution plates on different parameters. We concluded that a distribution plate geometry has a significant effect on the distribution of the air flow across the cross-section of the distribution plate which in turn affects the fluidization of the particles in the fluidized bed.
Keywords:fluidized bed, numerical modeling, experiment, pressure drop.
