Metode: Izvedli smo pregled, analizo in sintezo literature v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library in Wiley Online Library. Potek iskanja smo prikazali s pomočjo PRISMA diagrama.

Title:The effect of portion size on the amount of food consumed
Abstract:Introduction: Portion size is important for weight maintenance and healthy eating. However, it increases in the modern world. Through a literature review, we wanted to investigate the effect of portion size on food intake in adults. Methodology: We performed a literature review, analysis, and synthesis of PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Wiley Online Library databases. The search process was presented using a PRISMA diagram. The analyzed studies were critically appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute tool and descriptively synthesized. Results: We included 11 studies in the final analysis, and one of them was classified as level 1, five as level 2, and five as level 3 of the evidence hierarchy. The majority (n = 6, 54.5%) confirmed that a larger portion, packet, or plate size influences a larger amount of food consumed. Larger portions lead to higher energy intake, which in turn makes it more difficult to maintain adequate body weight. Discussion and conclusion: We found that portion size has an impact on food intake in adults but not all studies have confirmed this. Further research in this area is needed and strategies to reduce portion size and thus individual body weight needs to be developed.
