Abstract:Čas nosečnosti predstavlja obdobje, ko so ženske zaradi spremenjenega delovanja imunskega sistema izpostavljene večjemu tveganju za pojav okužb in zastrupitev s hrano. S kvalitativno analizo intervjujev smo pridobili tri teme: poznavanje priporočil, upoštevanje priporočil in viri informacij.

Title:Women's food safety perception during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Abstract:During pregnancy women are more susceptible to food-borne illness, due to the altered functioning of the immune system. Food-borne illness during pregnancy can lead to severe consequences for the health of the mother and the fetus. We used a qualitative method with interviews to understand the awareness, knowledge, behaviour, and risk perception of women during pregnancy and breastfeeding regarding food safety. We also conducted a literature review comparing quantitative and qualitative research that has investigated knowledge and adherence to food safety recommendations during pregnancy. 10 pregnant woman and 10 postpartum mothers (mothers during brestfeeding) took part in the interviews. With qualitative analysis of the interviews, we obtained three themes: knowledge of the recommendations, adherence to recommendations and sources of information. We found that pregnant women and post-partum mothers have general knowledge of recommendations regarding food safety during pregnancy, but there are some gaps in the knowledge. Pregnant woman and postpartum mothers have little knowledge of microorganisms that pose a risk of food poisoning during pregnancy, except for the T. gondii parasite. Most of the interviewees unproperly defrost their food and more than a half of them consume high-risk foods during pregnancy. Interviewees perceive medical personnel as the most reliable source of information on food safety, but only half received some information from a gynaecologist. We suggest improving and unifying ways of raising awareness about food safety during pregnancy and adding content that would help women understand the risks.
