Abstract:V zaključnem delu smo obravnavali prostovoljstvo mladih in njihovo motivacijo za vključevanje v lokalna turistična društva. V teoretičnem delu smo predstavili opredelitve in oblike prostovoljstva, pomen prostovoljstva v družbi in v Sloveniji ter vključevanje mladih v prostovoljstvo.

Title:Youth and volunteer work in local tourism societies
Abstract:The thesis is addressing youth volunteering and their motivation to join local tourist associations. The theoretical part introduces definitions and forms of volunteering, the role of volunteering in society with its statistics in Slovenia, and youth engagement in volunteering. It describes the reasons and motivating factors that influence an individual, highlighting the distinction between intrinsic (inner) and extrinsic (outer) motivation, and self-determination theory. Further on, it discusses tourism as a voluntary activity, the areas of activity of the Slovenian Tourist Associations and its local tourist associations, along with youth integration in their volunteering activities. In the empirical part, we conducted a survey among students of the Faculty of Tourism, University of Maribor, where we found that students on average mostly agree that tourism associations play an important role in the local environment, but only less than a fifth of the surveyed tourism students has already participated in volunteering activities within tourism associations. The main conclusions are that the higher a student estimates the role of volunteering in society, the more he is motivated to volunteer in a local tourist association. The most common constraint for volunteering recognized is the lack of time, followed by lack of information and dislocation of student life from student’s permanent residence. The findings helped us form some guidelines for the future development of youth volunteering in local tourist associations.
