Anketni vprašalnik je vseboval vprašanja zaprtega tipa in večstopenjske lestvice, s katerimi so starši izrazili svoja stališča glede vloge in pomoči šole ob ločitvi.

Title:Parental divorce: the role of school in supporting children and their parents
Abstract:The nuclear family is regarded as the primary social unit, paramount for a child's growth and development since time immemorial, and our point of focus in the theoretical part of this master’s thesis. Throughout the years, humans tend to change, however, a person’s personality largely evolves already during childhood. Today, we can observe an increased divorce rate, which negatively impacts and gives rise to distress amongst children. To avoid the ramifications that such stress brings, parents should be aware of how to properly deal with this situation and how to synergize with schools, which are essentially a child’s second home. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to conduct a research on a sample of divorced parents with children of mandatory school age on the role of school in their divorce and if they or their children had benefitted of the school’s assistance. We wanted to find out whether, in these situations, the interaction between parents and schools flows smoothly or if parents would like to have more support from schools, or whether they find the schools help an invasion of privacy. We performed a qualitative research study which included 103 parents, we interviewed 14 divorced fathers and 89 divorced mothers. The questionnaire included closed-ended questions and scales based on which parents had to express their views on the role and level of assistance of schools in their divorce. Our results showed that parents find the role of schools in divorce as satisfactory and that they do not expect anything more. Divorce is still considered a very personal issue and one about which parents do not like to discuss with teachers. At the same time, parents find that the teachers are not competent enough to help and assist them in bringing up children following divorce.
