Abstract:Frazemi so izrazna sredstva, ki naš jezik bogatijo in ga olepšajo.

Title:Idioms in the youth literature works of Svetlana Makarovič
Abstract:Idioms are means of expression that enrich and beautify our language. They are present in our everyday communication and in artistic and non-artistic texts. In fact, they are an essential part of everyday language. However, understanding idioms is challenging, especially for children. They often do not understand and recognize the transferred meaning and many times understand the phrases literally. In the master thesis »Idioms in the youth literature works of Svetlana Makarovič« the main purpose was to read and study the author's youth prose works and find phrases in them. As a criterion for interpretation of idioms we used Janez Keber`s “Dictionary of Slovene Idioms” (Slovar slovenskih frazemov, 2015). In this master thesis we found a set of 158 idioms which we included in the discussion. We analysed them according to frequency, form and significance. In terms of frequency, the most prominent phrases were "sapo je vzelo komu" and "hitro kot blisk", and among the most common are "valjati se od smeha", "pojdi(te) se solit" and "umreti od smeha«. In terms of form the most common are verbal idioms (101), followed by adverbial idioms (27), as adjectival (13), nominal idioms (11) and non-speech idioms (6) are much less common. We also drew attention to the reconstructed idioms. According to the research, we are convinced that idioms should be under consideration as early as the first grades of primary school, as they can make it easier for students to understand artistic texts and at the same time enrich their vocabulary.
