Abstract:V magistrskem delu analiziramo vpliv dohodkovne neenakosti na kakovost življenja ljudi.

Title:Income inequality around the world: analysis of life quality among countries with different income inequality
Abstract:In this master's thesis we analyse the impact of income inequality on people's quality of life. Income inequality refers to the difference in the distribution of income in a given society. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in studying the impact of income inequality on various socio-economic factors. In this thesis, we examine the relationship between income inequality and various socio-economic factors that constitute the constructs of quality of life for the developed countries of the world. Income inequality is important in both developed and developing countries, but for different reasons. In developed countries, it is a sign of status, whereas in developing countries it is linked to the satisfaction of the basic necessities of life, and it would therefore not make sense to consider them together. The conclusion of the study is that in developed countries where income inequality is higher, more socio-economic problems are present. Higher income inequality is positively correlated with higher levels of ill-being, mental health, obesity, crime, drug use, distrust and prison populations. Education performance is also worse in countries with high income inequality, people work more and find it harder to move up the social ladder. On average, people in countries with lower income inequality are more willing to help others, cope better with crises and take better care of the environment. Contrary to what many people believe, income inequality has a negative impact on the majority of the population, not just the poor. Knowing about income inequality can help us make important decisions, such as decisions about migration, decisions about the choice of market to sell products to, negotiating for a better wage, etc. At the same time, we can learn from other countries and transfer knowledge from abroad to our home country.
Keywords:income inequality, socio-economic factors, globalisation, quality of life, poverty, social gradient.
