Posebno pozornost smo namenili cesarju Meidžiju in njegovem spreminjanju politične, družbene in gospodarske zgradbe države.

Title:The Transition From a Closed Feudal to an Open Imperial Society in Japan
Abstract:In the master's thesis, we looked into how the opening of the country to the West and the transition from the old feudal system, to the imperial and democratic system took place in Japan. Japanese society has been under the grip of the Tokugawa shogunate for a long time. This period was fairly stable. At first, the dissatisfaction with the system began growing, primarily among farmers, since there was practically no agricultural development during all these years. We paid special attention to the Emperor Meiji and his changes in the political, social, and economic structure of the country.During this period, the aforementioned transition of the country was the most visible. We dealt with the activities of the young emperor in the majority of the master's thesis, as we believe that with the help of the mentioned period we can best illustrate the main topics of our thesis, namely the changing of the political scheme, economy and administration, and the gradual opening of the country to external influences. During the Meiji period, Japan was also involved in two conflicts, namely with Russia and a much more serious one with its main Asian rival, China. In the thesis, we also covered the period that follow the Meiji period, the Taisho period, which lasted between 1912 and 1926. During the Taisho period, we focused on the activities of the newly formed parliament and various prime ministers. As the time of the First World War drew closer, we also looked at Japan during the war and its influence among the Allied countries. In the last part of the master's thesis, we talked about some specific topics, such as the position of women in post-war Japan, traditional Japanese religion, and the appearance of the young regent Hirohito, who will play an extremely important role in the following historical period, especially during the Second World War.
