Abstract:Uvod: Kolike so stanje, pri katerih se pojavlja pretiran jok in nemir dojenčka. Metode: V diplomskem delu smo uporabili sistematični pristop dela z metodo pregleda, analize in sinteze znanstvene literature, deskriptivno metodo in metodo kompilacije. Analizo in sintezo identificiranih raziskav smo prikazali v obliki tabele in opisno. Rezultati pregleda literature so pokazali, da probiotiki skrajšajo čas joka, zmanjšajo nemir, podaljšajo čas spanja, znižajo kalprotektin in zvišajo delež laktobacilov v črevesni mikrobioti.

Title:The effect of probiotics on colic in infants
Abstract:Introduction: Infant colics are known as the conditions in which excessive crying and restlessness of the baby occur. It appears in the first four months of age. The occurrence is very common, but their cause is still unknown. Treatment with probiotics is promising for their relief, as experts believe that they have a positive effect on the intestinal microbiota. The positive action of probiotics would help alleviate the problems of babies and their parents. Methods: We used a systematic approach of work with the method of review, analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, descriptive method and compilation method. For the literature search, we used international electronic databases: CINAHL, PubMed and ScienceDirect, as well as Google Scholar. With the help of Boolean operators, keywords and based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, we displayed the number of searches using the PRISMA diagram. The analysis and synthesis of the identified research was presented in the form of a table and descriptively. Results: Of the 352 identified hits that we found in the databases, 12 were suitable for our research. The results of the literature review showed that probiotics reduced crying time, reduced restlessness, increased sleep time, decreased calprotectin and increased the composition of lactobacilli. Discussion and conclusion: In our research on the effect of probiotics on colic in infants, we found that probiotics have a positive effect on sleep, reduced crying and restlessness in infants. We also found that the effect and performance of the probiotic depends on its strain. A positive effect on colic was seen more in breast-fed babies, but not as much in formula-fed infants.
