V raziskavo smo s pomočjo spletnega anketnega vprašalnika vključili 120 rednih in izrednih študentov zdravstvene nege ene izmed slovenskih zdravstvenih fakultet. Podatke smo analizirali s pomočjo opisne statistike in jih obdelali v računalniškem programu IBM Statisctical Package for Social Science ter Microsoft Excel.

Title:Knowledge and experience of nursing students about the application of intramuscular injection
Abstract:Introduction: Intramuscular injection is one of the most commonly used approaches for drug administration. It means the application of the medication deep into the muscular tissue. We were interested in nursing students' knowledge and experience of intramuscular injection. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and processed in IBM Statistical Package for Social Science and Microsoft Excel. Methods: We used quantitative methodology. The study involved 120 full-time and part-time nursing students from one of Slovenia's nursing faculties, using an online questionnaire. Results: Most nursing students (57%) in clinical practice use the application of intramuscular injection into the dorsogluteal area. The ventrogluteal area, identified as the preferred site in the recent literature, is unknown to students (12%). They are unable to locate the site (12%), are afraid of harming the patient (11%); have a lack of adequate knowledge (13%), and the most common answer was that they are not used to this site for intramuscular injection (16%). Only 6% of nursing students use ventrogluteal site in clinical practice. Discussion and conclusion: Nursing students are under-educated about the importance of ventrogluteal site and evidence-based guidelines for intramuscular injection application. There are differences between teaching at the faculty and clinical training in the clinical environment, where the application of intramuscular injections is mainly performed according to the traditional method of work.
