Abstract:Magistrsko delo obravnava okoliščine in posledice, ki so Avstrijo 10. septembra 1919 pripeljale do podpisa sanžermenske mirovne pogodbe z zavezniki.

Title:The Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye with the Republic of German-Austria in the eyes of Slovenian and Austian newspapers
Abstract:The master's thesis deals with the circumstances and consequences that led Austria to sign the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye with the Allies on September 10, 1919. This peace treaty formally confirmed the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and enabled the establishment of the Republic of Austria. I first focused on the situation in Europe after the First World War. I also mentioned the living, political and economic conditions typical of Austria in the period in question. I then focused on the peace negotiations between the Austrian and Yugoslav delegations at the Paris Peace Conference for the conclusion of The Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. By studying selected primary sources and scholarly literature, I outlined the essential peace agreement provisions and finally focused on the adoption of the Saint-Germain Peace Treaty. The Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye prohibited Austria from unification with Germany in Article 88 of the peace treaty. It imposed high payments of war reparations caused during the First World War. The Austrian delegation, therefore, opposed the signing of the peace treaty but was eventually forced to sign it, as did the Yugoslav and Romanian delegations who complained about the provisions on the protection of national minorities. The Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye dramatically weakened the Austrian economy. Austria became dependent on the Allies, who supplied it with food and industrial raw materials.
