Življenje s stomo zahteva prilagajanje, spremembe življenjskega sloga in bolj izpostavljeno čustveno doživljanje družbene vloge. Skupno so anketiranci ocenili svoje zdravstveno stanje s povprečno oceno 3,13. Razprava in sklep: Ugotovitve naše raziskave so pokazale razlike v zdravju, počutju in doživljanju življenja v ranljivi populaciji stomistov.

Title:Self-Assessment of health in ostomy patients in slovenia
Abstract:Introduction: Health self-assessment is an established health assessment method, which is used as a reliable method for predicting morbidity, health deterioration and mortality. Living with an excretory stoma requires adaptation, lifestyle changes and a more pronounced emotional perception of the social role. The aim of the research was to determine how ostomy patients in Slovenia assess their own health. Methodology: A descriptive work method was used. They survey was prepared based on the set hypotheses and research questions. 220 ostomy patients with a permanent or temporary excretory stoma were invited to participate in the research. The obtained data were processed with IBM SPSS Statistics software and shown in form of tables, using the descriptive method of result interpretation. Results: 170 ostomy patients (77.2% response rate) participated in the research, of which 92 (54.1%) were women and 78 (45.9%) men. Their average age was 40–60 years (SD ± 22.56). 164 respondents (97%) had a permanent stoma, of which 129 (76.3%) due to malignant diseases and 45 (20.2%) due to associated cardiovascular diseases. Altogether, the respondents assessed their health with an average score of 3.13. Discussion and conclusion: Findings of our research showed differences in health, well-being and life perception of a vulnerable population of ostomy patients. We confirmed differences in health self-assessment in terms of gender and between those with malign and associated chronic non-infectious diseases. We have not, however, proved a statistically significant difference in health self-assessment of patients with different types of stoma (permanent or temporary). In this research, we determined that health self-assessment of ostomy patients in Slovenia is very low, showing the need for improvement, as health self-assessment plays an important role in creating the health policy.
