Abstract:V poletnih mesecih je pregreto ozračje eden glavnih vzrokov za nastanek številnih krajevnih neviht, neurij, debele toče in velike količine dežja v zelo kratkih časovnih obdobjih. Številni vodotoki – potoki in reke – takrat prestopijo svoje struge in poplavljajo ob svojih bregovih.

Title:Contactless river velocimetry with mobile apps
Abstract:During the summer months, the overheated atmosphere is one of the main causes of many local storms, heavy hail and large amounts of rain in very short periods of time. Many watercourses like streams and rivers cross over their beds at that time and flood along their banks. The large amount of water, causes damage to infrastructure and washes away bridges, floods nearby houses, destroys roads, agricutural fields, etc. In order to prevent fears and long term reconstruction, we equip watercourses with various meters and sensors that read important data to us, such as; current speed, flow rate, water level, temperature, which sometimes isn’t enough. In the diploma thesis we will check whether a person with the help of a smart phone application, could quickly measure the current speed or flow rate. Through field work, we will try to learn the function and interpretation of data from smart phone applications and check to what extent the obtained data is reliable for users and further processing. We will describe the applications and compare the results with conventional measuring equipment. The results showed that the Discharge application offers satisfactory results and sophisticated data transfer to other devices. After the measurments, we found that the otherwise affordable solution needs to be improved on some sides. The measurment site and the actual measuring in this way can be time consuming, for the common person the information can become less accurate. However, such a method of measuring could be used by interested groups, organizations, less likely for awarness purposes.
