Abstract:Čiščenje odpade komunalne vode predstavlja v sodobnem svetu velik strošek. Razviti numerični model vključuje določene poenostavitve fizikalnega dogajanja z namenom uporabnosti modela in njegove uporabe za napovedovanje učinkovitosti procesa pridelave bioplina v obravnavanem sistemu. Razviti numerični model je testiran pod različnimi vstopnimi pogoji in na različnih geometrijskih oblikah reaktorja. Rezultati, dobljeni z numeričnim modelom, so primerjani z rezultati, dobljenimi v laboratorijskem UASB reaktorju. V laboratorijskem UASB reaktorju smo čistili komunalno odpadno vodo in modelno vodo. Modelna voda omogoča konstantno onesnaženje odpadne vode in s tem lažjo primerjavo rezultatov, dobljenih z numeričnim modelom. Rezultati, dobljeni z numeričnim modelom, nakazujejo primernost razvitega modela za opis anaerobne razgradnje odpadne komunalne vode v UASB reaktorju.

Title:Numerical modeling of multiphase and multicomponent flow during anaerobic treatment of municipal wastewater in a UASB-reactor
Abstract:Treatment of municipal wastewater is a major cost in the modern world. The use of a UASB reactor could reduce the cost of municipal wastewater treatment. In anaerobic digestion in a UASB reactor, there are three phases consisting of several components. The operation of the UASB reactor is affected by parameters such as temperature, water pollution, flow rate, etc. As part of the doctoral thesis, a model for determining the density of the anaerobic granules as a function of the diameter of the anaerobic granules was developed on the basis of experimental measurements and the use of a mathematical model of the settling velocity of anaerobic granules. Furthermore, a numerical model of the anaerobic digestion of municipal wastewater in a UASB reactor was developed for the example of a multiphase and multicomponent flow of the anaerobic digestion of municipal wastewater. The numerical model describes a three-phase multicomponent flow and is based on the Euler-Euler-Euler approach for modelling three continuous multicomponent phases in the system under consideration. The liquid phase, which represents the wastewater consisting of water and pollutants, the solid phase, which represents the anaerobic granules consisting of granules and pollutants, and the gaseous phase, which represents the biogas produced in the anaerobic granules consisting of methane and carbon dioxide, are discussed. The developed numerical model includes certain simplifications of the physical phenomena with the aim of applicability of the model and its use for predicting the efficiency of the biogas production process in the considered system. The developed numerical model is tested under different inlet conditions and on different geometrical shapes of the reactor. The results obtained with the numerical model are compared with those obtained in the laboratory UASB reactor. Municipal wastewater and model water were treated in the laboratory UASB reactor. The model water allows for uniform contamination of the wastewater and thus facilitates the comparison of the results obtained with the numerical model. The results obtained with the numerical model indicate the suitability of the developed model for describing the anaerobic degradation of pollutants of municipal wastewater in the UASB reactor.
