Abstract:V magistrski nalogi je opisana analiza in izvedba modulacijskih strategij za kaskadni modularni večnivojski pretvornik, namenjen generiranju visokonapetostnih valovnih oblik iz nizkonapetostnih komponent.

Title:Analysis and implementation of modulation strategies of a modular multilevel converter
Abstract:This thesis describes the analysis and implementation of modulation strategies for a cascaded modular multilevel converter designed to generate high-voltage waveforms from low-voltage components. The thesis explains in detail the modulation techniques used and their implementation procedure for the generation of pulses, which are differently distributed on solid-state switches (MOSFETs). A comparison of the different modulation techniques is made according to the simulation and experimental results obtained. The quality of the output signal is measured by the so-called total harmonic distortion (TCD). Therefore, the influence of the modulation strategies on the THD has been investigated and a conclusion has been drawn as to which of the selected strategies is the most optimal one. The Matlab/Simulink programming environment used is explained, as well as the TMS320F28379D microcontroller and its programming method is described. Measurements were performed with an oscilloscope and a logic analyzer such as Digilent Analog Discovery 2. For the implementation, a simple H-bridge is used as the basic module and the driver is described in the thesis. The advantage of the converter is mainly that it provides a lower voltage load on the solid state switches, a lower switching frequency and thus lower switching losses and a low total harmonic distortion of the current, without the addition of large passive filters.
